2026-27 Team Formation & Player Intent Timelines Update

Feb. 12, 2026

Team Formation Update

For the next season (2026-27), Ringette Ontario has launched a new Team Formation policy for U14 to U19 age groups (all levels AA to C).  This starts with the soon to be launched player intent to tryout and ‘A’/’AA’ team tryout processes.

Some key changes and highlights to the team formation policy include:

  • The removal of the "Closest-Association Matrix" that governed player’s options for accepted roster offers outside of their home clubs (The home club first right of refusal remains)
  • A maximum number of AA and A teams that a player can try out for.
  • Shortened try out windows
  • Underage players are no longer permitted except for team viability and upon prior approval from Ringette Ontario (for B/C, some consideration may be given on a case by case basis; i.e. if no age level team exists in a reasonable travel distance)
  • Minimum program standards applicable to both AA and A level teams (e.g. minimum number of weekly on-ice and off-ice training sessions)
